Safe Practices

The safety of our employees is our greatest concern. Safe practices are not only encouraged, they are required at every Federal-Mogul facility worldwide. Our motto, “If it’s not safe, stop it,” is broadly communicated and practiced by all employees from the top of our organization to the shop floor. As set forth in our Health & Safety and Business Management Policies, this message is carried throughout the organization.

Health and Safety Policy and Audits

Federal-Mogul facilities maintain robust health and safety management systems which are regularly audited to verify conformance with applicable EHS, legal, and other requirements. View our Health and Safety, and Business Management Policies.

Our facilities establish, implement, maintain and improve upon health and safety management systems that conform to international standards such as OHSAS 18001.

Emergency Planning

Each of our facilities is required to develop and implement documented procedures and plans to effectively manage emergency situations. Federal-Mogul’s Emergency Preparedness and Response (EP&R) Plans are instrumental in ensuring safe business practices for all employees when unthinkable situations arise.

Safety Training

Safety is paramount. Therefore, we require our facilities to develop and implement training plans that provide the general safety training, as well as necessary machine specific/task-specific safety training for all employees, including temporary workers having activities at their site.

Safety in Numbers

Providing a safe environment within the global organization is a key priority for Federal-Mogul and fits with the company’s mission of excellence for its world-class teams. Proper adherence to environmental, health & safety ("EHS") training and guidelines, along with routine safety training and equipment checks are part of everyday life in our more than 100 facilities around the world.

A recent illustration of the company’s commitment to safety can be found in Federal-Mogul’s Puebla, Mexico rings and liners plant. The plant recently celebrated 1,000 consecutive days without an incident, an important safety milestone. The Puebla plant is committed to continuous improvement and the reduction of waste and contaminants through the implementation of goals and objectives that are available for all employees to review and are revisited by the management team there annually.

A good example of such improvements were the excellent safety guards and safety devices installed on both new and refurbished machines at the facility, to protect workers from injury. Technical and maintenance experts and machine operators from Europe and North America gathered in Puebla to provide support during the plant’s initial start-up in 2015. “This type of activity ensures that the machinery in Puebla meets our global safety standards and ensures the safety of our operators onsite,” said Mark Bauer, director, EHS, Federal-Mogul Powertrain.

As further evidence of Federal-Mogul's commitment to safety, many Federal-Mogul Motorparts facilities experienced zero safety incidents, zero injuries, zero evacuations or fires, and no government citations for safety or environment violations globally during 2016.  Moreover, our Coslada, Spain, and Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, distribution centers; and our Tortuguitas, Argentina, sealing and engine manufacturing facility, have obtained this safety performance distinction for five consecutive years.
