The steel elastomer gasket also known as S/E is a solid steel carrier with elastomeric beads chemically bonded to the edges and/or surfaces of the carrier. Combustion sealing is achieved using a wire ring, multi-layer steel (MLS) feature or an interaction with the cylinder head, engine block and/or liner.
Features and benefits include:
- Steel body provides control of compressed gasket thickness.
- Carrier maintains joint stability by resisting thermal and mechanical stresses.
- Elastomeric seals are conformable, resilient and resistant to fluid degradation.
- Elastomeric beads require less clamping force to seal.
- Single gasket can contain multiple elastomeric compounds for localized sealing requirements.
- Controlled stress and strain increase life of the fluid seals.
- Engineered combustion and fluid seal creates efficient load balance across the gasket.
