Federal-Mogul Training: We’ve Taken It on the Road
The high levels of quality found in Federal-Mogul training can also be found beyond the walls of our St. Louis Technical Education Center (TEC). Our field seminars are held throughout the country all year long. Field seminars are local, three-hour presentations given by one of Federal-Mogul TEC’s Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified instructors on selected topics. These seminars are designed for the professional technician and are usually presented during the evening hours to maximize attendance and minimize time away from the shop.

What does each course consist of?

Advanced Fuel System Troubleshooting

This seminar covers fuel delivery concerns on today’s vehicles. Electronically controlled fuel pump circuits have become standard equipment on many manufacturers’ vehicles. Review complex operating strategies to reduce your diagnostic time. Proper testing techniques and the necessary equipment for both fuel pressure and fuel volume will be presented. Electrical system testing will also be thoroughly covered. Many of today’s engine performance problems can stem from inadequate fuel delivery system operation; recognize how to pinpoint these problems through proper fuel system performance testing, fuel quality testing procedures, and from scan tool data interpretation. Attendees receive the ALL NEW interactive self-paced CD as take home reference material.

Advanced Sealing Systems and Engine Design
This seminar will help technicians identify the necessary installation procedures and the selection of sealing materials used on late model composite and bi-metal engines. This seminar will clearly identify the characteristics and application of MLS (multi layer steel) gaskets. Engine design topics will include discussion on cylinder cancelation systems such as GM’s Active Fuel Management system, Chrysler’s Multiple Displacement System, Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management and systems by Toyota and Audi will be presented. Differentiate types of strategies used for Variable Valve Timing and identify sealing materials and preparation required to seal today's engine upon reassembly. Attendees receive the ALL NEW interactive self-paced CD as take home reference material.

Diagnosing Late Model ABS Systems and Related Components
This seminar reviews new developments in automotive and light truck braking systems and uncovers base brake issues that can masquerade as ABS problems.  We will analyze the operating characteristics and components of the most popular ABS systems on the road today, including RWAL, 4WAL, EBC310/325, Delphi VI, Bosch 5.3, DBC-7 and Teves Mark IV. New ShopClip "in shop" video captures bring hands on solutions from the shop to you!  Attendees receive the ALL NEW interactive self-paced CD as take home reference material.

Engine Systems
This seminar is designed to provide a good understanding in the operation of the internal combustion engines and improve the technician and machinist's working knowledge of cylinder head and lower block reconditioning. It will enhance the participant's ability to identify technology changes and select the proper components when performing engine service.  Discuss Active Fuel Management and Variable Valve Timing.

Discuss AFM and VVT. Attendees receive the ALL NEW interactive self-paced CD as take home reference material.

Enhanced Ignition and Fuel System Testing: Effective Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
This seminar is designed for technicians working on driveability concerns with today’s vehicles. Misfire and fuel system DTC’s are among the most popular DTC’s retrieved; identify from this class how to shortcut your diagnostic procedures substantially.  How to read and use Mode 6 information to gain diagnostic direction is presented.  Explore low amp current testing of primary ignition (COP) and fuel pump circuits to gain better understanding of these waveforms. View “real time” scope captures and scan tool data highlighting problem areas. Review how to distinguish bad scan data and scope traces from good. Attendees receive the ALL NEW interactive self-paced CD as take home reference material.

Fuel Trim and Misfire Diagnostics
(NEW in 2009)
This seminar is designed to enhance the technician’s ability to diagnose engine performance related problems through using fuel trim information. Several cause and effect relationships will be defined with emphasis placed on fuel and ignition related misfires, engine mechanical problems (cylinder sealing), restricted inlet and exhaust systems and faulty sensor inputs (Mass Air Flow, 02, ECT, etc.) as they pertain to fuel trim corrections. Learn to diagnose fuel trim DTC’s in a timely manner. Understand the relationship between lambda and fuel trim and use this information to diagnose engine performance problems. Total fuel trim correction learned by the vehicle PCM is the technician’s window into the vehicle’s fuel injection system. Attendees receive the ALL NEW interactive self-paced CD as take home reference material.

Moog Chassis Training - Tips and Techniques
This seminar is designed for the technician working in the alignment and chassis areas. Electronic steering and suspension systems have exploded onto the market and many interface with the PCM, BCM and ABS systems to optimize handling, ride control and safety. Diagnostic alignment and the relationship of alignment to parts and tire wear are presented. New color animation is used to aid in understanding of advanced alignment angles and service procedures. Hear time saving Tips and Techniques along with vehicle inspection and customer communication skills, utilizing the MAP guidelines. See what’s new in Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems. What to do if the “Check Suspension” light is on. New ShopClip "in shop" video captures bring hands on solutions from the shop to you!  Attendees receive the ALL NEW interactive self-paced CD as take home reference material.
