TEC104 — Advanced Steering and Suspension Diagnostics
2 days (16 hours)
*$439 U.S.
1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) awarded

This workshop is designed with a combination of classroom and hands-on education to provide information on the operation and diagnostics of late model electronic steering and suspension systems that have become popular in the marketplace.  Advanced diagnostic alignment and the service and alignment of modified vehicles are part of this workshop.  Service tips and alignment precautions are reviewed.  The workshop also explores the current trend of modified vehicles, tire/wheel plus sizing and the impact on handling, tire life, and wheel alignment.  Concerns related to service and custom alignment within this popular market are addressed.  The workshop is designed for the experienced under-car alignment technician.

Prerequisite: Attendance of TEC101 or a minimum of 2 years as an under-car technician with ASE A-4 certification (automotive steering and suspension).

After completing this workshop, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the operation of popular electronic stability control (ESC) systems currently in use (Stabilitrac, ESP, AdvanceTrac).
  • Discuss distance based cruise control systems now entering the marketplace.
  • Define the function of electronic steering systems (E steer), four wheel steering systems and variable assist power steering such as MagnaSteer.
  • Identify the components and operation of late model ride control systems.
  • Demonstrate the relationship of vehicle chassis or tire size modification to geometry, handling and tire wear issues.
  • Discuss the operating characteristics and recalibration procedures of popular tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).
  • Utilize the alignment machine to diagnose damaged or worn components by using SAI, included angle, scrub radius, and toe out on turns.

* Tuition includes lunch, classroom materials, hotel lodging and transportation between the airport/hotel/TEC the evening prior to workshop date, and each full day through the duration of the course.  For those not requiring a hotel room, please call 888-771-6005 or 314-512-8262 for discounted rates.
