2 days (16 hours) *$439 U.S. 1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) awarded This workshop begins where the TEC101 workshop ends and enhances the skills of the professional undercar technician in the areas of electronic suspension, electronic steering controls and advanced alignment. A combination of classroom and hands-on ctivites are utilized during this workshop. Many vehicles now entering the marketplace are equipped with electronic suspension and steering components which are unfamiliar to most undercar technicians. We use popular late model vehicles equipped with these systems that have real-world system failures. The students, equipped with skills presented in the classroom, are required to identify and repair these problems using scan tools and test equipment provided in our shop environment. This workshop also addresses advanced alignment diagnosis (SAI/IA, scrub radius, toe out on turns, etc.) and the service and alignment of modified vehicles. Prerequisite: Attendance of TEC101 or a minimum of 2 years as an under-car technician with ASE A-4 certification (automotive suspension and steering). After completing this workshop, the student will be able to: - Demonstrate procedures for service and alignment of vehicles with modified suspension or tire/wheel changes.
- Define the operation of various electronically assisted steering systems (column drive, rack motor drive, belt drive).
- Identify the components and operation of late model ride control systems and related service procedures.
- Discuss variable effort and variable ratio steering systems.
- Utilize the alignment machine as a diagnostic tool for the alignment and repair of vehicles involved in road hazard incidents and vehicle collisions.
