2 days (16 hours) *$439 U.S. 1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) awarded
This workshop will concentrate on the most common driveability problems encountered on Asian and domestic vehicles. The workshop is designed with a combination of classroom and hands-on education. Engine Misfires are one of the highest causes of the Check Engine Light being illuminated, and problems ranging from Ignition to Fuel Delivery to Engine Mechanical can be the cause of a Misfire DTC. Both in-cylinder pressure transducers and manifold vacuum transducers can reduce valuable diagnostic and teardown time on today’s Variable Valve Timing equipped multi-cam engines. The use of this equipment will be demonstrated in the service bays. Evaporative Emissions systems continue to change and be the cause of Check Engine Light illumination. NEW Evap system technologies will be explored and technicians will learn to test the function of various engine management systems to validate root causes for many types of Engine Performance-related problems. System repairs will be performed in our state-of-the art service bays. Explore the industry’s newest aftermarket test equipment and procedures available for fast, efficient vehicle repair.
Prerequisite: Attendance of TEC304, TEC305 or TEC306 or ASE Certification in A-6 (Electrical/Electronics) or A-8 (Engine Performance).
After completing this workshop, the student will be able to:
- Perform mechanical engine testing and diagnosis using electronic pressure transducers.
- Examine causes of Misfire- and Fuel-related DTCs using popular test equipment and scan tools.
- Utilize NEW scan tool information and techniques to reduce diagnostic time in the service bay for Engine Performance concerns.
- Apply evaporative emissions testing strategies used on GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles for diagnostics of a DTC P0442 (small leak) and DTC 455 (large leak) using a smoke machine and Mode 8.
- Diagnose engine breathing-related faults (both Intake and Exhaust) using Fuel Trim and Volumetric Efficiency testing information via the scan tool.
- Verify Air:Fuel (Lambda) sensor operation on car and test using proper techniques.
* Tuition includes lunch, classroom materials, hotel lodging and transportation between the airport/hotel/TEC the evening prior to workshop date, and each full day through the duration of the course.
