This workshop is designed specifically to keep technicians current on changing vehicle-management systems for domestic vehicles. Engine controls and components are reviewed as they relate to OBD II testing strategies. Technicians become proficient with scan tools, oscilloscopes, graphing meters and emissions dynamometers, and learn how to diagnose real-world problems and perform accurate and necessary system repairs. They’ll establish a solid foundation utilizing “strategy-based diagnostics”. Prerequisite: Attended TEC301 or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in Electrical/Electronics or Engine Performance.

After completing this workshop, the student will be able to:

  • Analyze and interpret modern vehicle fuel systems and the controls within
  • Examine OBD I and II and comparatively analyze diagnostic strategies of each
  • Comprehend sensor and system changes in vehicle evolution
  • Recognize changes in vehicular ignition systems and identify unique diagnostic procedures
  • Demonstrate test and repair techniques that increase shop productivity
  • Diagnose real-world problem vehicles using scan tools, oscilloscopes, multimeters and dynamometers
  • Utilize MAP guidelines to explain the need for repairs or service to the vehicle owner
