Designed for the experienced service technician primarily involved with engine rebuilding, this course covers servicing the latest technology cylinder heads with an emphasis on aluminum. The course increases the technician’s working knowledge of repair and conditioning of cast iron and aluminum heads. It also includes analyzing different cleaning methods, milling, pressure testing, straightening, crack detection and repair. And instruction will be given in repair techniques such as welding, oven straightening, stitching pins and boring cam towers. Prerequisite: Attended TEC402 or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified Cylinder Head Specialist.
After completing this workshop, the student will be able to:
- Analyze aluminum cylinder heads that have been cleaned by pyrolytic oven, glass beading, airless shot blast, and hot and cold wet cleaning
- Identify integrity of cylinder head components through specification measurements
- Categorize cylinder head service steps in preparation for line-boring cam towers, milling, pressure testing, straightening, crack detection and crack repair
- Use various techniques to repair cylinder heads in the areas of welding, oven and heat straightening, stitching pins, line-boring cam towers and milling
