Products Technology Applications Manufacturing Overview
IROX™ Polymer-Coated Bearings IROX™ Polymer-Coated Bearings

The innovative IROX bearing coating reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by reducing friction and wear in hybrid and start/stop engine designs, as well as enabling the downsizing of high output engines through increasing the bearing strength and reliability.  It is estimated that IROX can increase the life of the bearing shells by more than five times in extreme engine applications.

Key features include:

  • Improved wear-resistance, better sliding properties and increased fatigue strength over conventional bimetal bearings
  • Polymer resin binder with anti-wear and solid lubricant additions to address intermittent lubrication situations
  • Works well with either nodular cast iron or forged steel crankshafts, therefore accommodating cost efficient or high performance engine architecture

GLYCODUR® Dry Bearings

For more than 30 years, we have manufactured bearings with layers of self-lubricating material that require either no lubrication or lubrication only at initial installation. Our commitment to the environment extends not only to our lead-free dry bearing material, but to our solvent-free manufacturing processes.

Our innovative technologies are applied in our sophisticated, state-of-the-art manufacturing and development facilities. These facilities allow us to continually respond to customer demand for standard and customized products designed to improve comfort and reduce maintenance for shock absorbers, hinges, gears, pumps, valves, car seats, vibration dampers and other equipment requiring bearing materials.

  • Lead-free, environmentally friendly
  • Produced in a solvent-free process
  • High delivery performance
  • Broad product portfolio available

GLYCODUR® F

GLYCODUR® F

GLYCODUR F bearings have a copper-plated steel base, to which a 0.2 to 0.4 mm porous tin bronze layer is sintered. The pores of this layer are filled during a rolling process with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and other friction and wear-reducing additives. A top layer made up of the same material forms the running-in layer.

GLYCODUR F bearings combine, in an optimal manner, the mechanical properties of the sintered bronze with the sliding and lubrication properties of a PTFE mixture. The structure of this composite material results in excellent dimensional stability and thermal conductivity.

GLYCODUR® A

GLYCODUR® A

GLYCODUR A dry sliding bearings also have a copper-plated steel base and a 0.2 to 0.4 mm sintered tin bronze layer. The principal characteristic of these bearings is the polyoxymethylene (POM) top layer, which is solidly joined to the sintered bronze.

This surface layer is relatively thick, 0.3 mm, and features pockets for lubrication grease. GLYCODUR A dry sliding bearings are less affected by misalignments, including related edge loads.

GLYCODUR® AB

GLYCODUR® AB

GLYCODUR AB sliding bearings contain a similar composition to GLYCODUR A sliding bearings, with the exception of a 0.35 mm top layer made of POM. This difference allows the final machining of the sliding surface on installed bushings by boring or turning, or in exceptional cases by reaming, in order to eliminate possible misalignments or to achieve small operating clearance.

GLYCODUR® Mesh Material

GLYCODUR® Mesh Material

GLYCODUR Mesh Material is used in applications such as bushings for automotive door hinges, bushings for seat belt preload devices, bushings for belt tensioners and bushings for seat recliners.

  • Clearance-free installation due to high degree of flexibility
  • Very small installation space
  • Cost-effective

Federal-Mogul Bearings, Bushings and Washers Federal-Mogul Bearings, Bushings and Washers

The design and materials used in the manufacture of bearings for internal combustion engines are specially matched to each specific application. We recognize that every bearing has its own individual function.

Bearings come in different forms depending on where they are to be installed. For radial loads, bearing shells and bushings are used, while for axial loads thrust washers or thrust collars are required. Federal-Mogul manufactures and supplies:

  • Connecting rod (big-end) bearings
  • Connecting rod (small-end) bushings
  • Crankshaft main bearings
  • Thrust bearings and washers
  • Piston pin bushings
  • Camshaft bearings and bushings
  • Mass balancer shaft bearings and bushings
  • Valve rocker bushings
  • Idler gear bushings
