Federal-Mogul designs and manufactures innovative product solutions for railway brake blocks. These products include the UIC “K” Block, the UIC “L” Block, the UIC “LL” Block and the Metro Block types.
Railway brake blocks work by acting on the circumference of the wheel. They can directly replace cast iron blocks and offer a number of advantages over cast iron. For example, railway brake blocks last three to four times longer than cast iron, providing a savings on life-cycle costs. They are also lighter and quieter in operation. Friction performance, however, is designed to replicate that of cast iron blocks.
