LED Interior Lighting
Federal-Mogul’s Lighting Group is using state-of-the-art design techniques to develop and integrate LED lighting into vehicle cabins. LED technologies have several advantages over other light sources. LEDs illuminate more quickly, use less energy, generate significantly less heat, last longer and contribute to smaller packaging. These advantages create added styling options for lighting applications in all environments and improved optics control.
Touch-free LightingFederal-Mogul has developed a high-efficiency LED interior lamp that can be operated with a simple wave of the hand. This innovative technology provides enhanced driver safety, greater durability and reduced energy use while eliminating the design constraints of mechanical switches. Key benefits include:- Easy-to-use, touch-free light provides for increased lighting functions and helps keep the driver’s eyes on the road, which enabling greater safety- Capacitive switching technology offers greater durability and reliability than mechanical switches- Operates even when operator is wearing gloves
Ultrathin Lighting with NovaLens™Federal-Mogul’s ultrathin lighting combines LEDs and a specially-designed lamp lens, called NovaLens™, to reduce the profile of interior lamps by up to 60 percent, while providing consistent and homogeneous illumination without hotspots. Other benefits include:- Improves headroom – a contributing factor in improving occupant safety; lamp facilitates the design of vehicles with lower rooflines- Greater interior styling options – compared to traditional interior lamp profiles of 30 mm, Federal-Mogul’s ultrathin lamp is just 12 mm thick, providing increased styling opportunities for vehicle designers- Reduces the mass of lighting modules due to less parts and smaller footprint
Ambient LightingFederal-Mogul’s portfolio of ambient lighting products provide vehicle designers with distinctive energy-efficient options, as well as ease of integration and packaging. Federal-Mogul engineers can create individual lighting and color packages to meet any customer’s requirements.- Can be designed to display any color- Easily packaged to provide homogeneous lighting using various technologies available to Federal-Mogul, including light pipes, fiber optics, LEDs- Can be integrated throughout vehicle or in select areas, such as the instrument panel, center stack, console, door panels, speakers and cup holders
Ambient Lighting: Waveguides
Waveguides (also known as light pipes) are durable, heat-resistant and rigid, and are easy to install either manually or robotically. Colored light sources or filters may be added to match the vehicle’s interior lighting.
