José Maria Alapont
President and Chief Executive Officer
José Maria Alapont is president, chief executive officer and a director of Federal-Mogul Corporation. He has more than 30 years of global leadership experience at both vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, with business and operations responsibilities in the Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific, and Americas regions.
Prior to joining Federal-Mogul in March 2005, Alapont was chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors at IVECO, the commercial vehicle company of the Fiat Group.
Between 1997 and 2003, Alapont served in various key executive positions at Delphi Corporation. He began his career at Delphi as executive director of international operations for Delphi energy and engine management systems. In 1998, Alapont became responsible for energy and chassis systems international operations. Soon after he was promoted to vice president of Delphi Corporation and president of Delphi Europe, Middle East and Africa, and became a member of the Delphi Strategy Board, the company’s top policy-making group. In 2003, Alapont was promoted to president of international operations and vice president of sales and marketing.
From 1990 to 1997, Alapont served in several executive roles and was a member of the Strategy Board at Valeo. He started at Valeo as managing director of engine cooling systems, Spain, and thereafter became executive director of worldwide heavy-duty engine cooling operations. He was promoted to group vice president of worldwide clutch and transmission components division, and group vice president of worldwide lighting systems division.
Alapont began his career at Ford Motor Company in 1974 and, over the course of 15 years, worked in different management and executive positions at Ford of Europe, from manufacturing and production positions at Ford of Spain to powertrain and supplier quality positions at Ford of Europe.
A native of Spain, Alapont earned degrees in industrial engineering from the Technical School of Valencia and in philology from the University of Valencia. Mr. Alapont has been a director of the Company since March 2005. He served as chairman of the board of directors of the Company from June 2005 to December 2007.
